The Center for Healing and Justice through Sport (CHJS) presents its inaugural fundraiser, The Ultimate Thunderdome — an adult field day – where you and four other teammates are strategizing to solve a series of dynamic challenges – physical and mental.
The Center for Healing and Justice through Sport (CHJS), a national nonprofit organization working to ensure that more young people have access to sport experiences that are youth-centered, healing-centered, and inclusive, will host their inaugural fundraiser, Ultimate Thunderdome, at Chicago Hope Academy Track & Field on June 3, 2023.
The Ultimate Thunderdome is an interactive experience and fundraiser where teams of five compete in small group activities for the ultimate prize and an opportunity to feel the power of sport for themselves. Attendees will be able to see sport for social impact in action – and help CHJS in their mission to make sport healing for all youth everywhere. CHJS believes that sport is drastically underutilized as an intentional strategy to support healing, build resilience, and address issues of systemic injustice.
CHJS engages with sport at every level. From community centers and juvenile detention centers to major college athletic conferences and professional leagues, the CHJS team is deeply rooted in teaching coaches to deliver healing-centered sport experiences while protecting, nurturing, and embracing athletes for every bit of who they are.
Join Our Celebrity Super Team
For this inaugural event, a Super Celebrity Team will be amongst the competitors, including Chicago native track and field World Champion, retired Nike Sprinter Alexandria Anderson, FIBA Men’s Virgin Islands National Team, and former Assistant Coach of the Portland Trail Blazers Coach Edniesha Curry, Emmy, Peabody Award-winning journalist at ESPN Sarah Spain, Imran Khan, the Founder and Executive Director of EMBARC Inc., the nation’s only teacher-led organization that achieves student academic success through systematic, long-term social and cultural exposure, and Ben Schornack, Director of Sport for Good Chicago at Laureus USA, a non-profit, grant-making organization that works to improve the lives of youth and unite communities through the power of sport.
We invite participants of all ages and ability levels to join us and our Celebrity Super Team for the festivities!
Attendees and donors of this event will have a hand in helping CHJS train more coaches, work with more organizations, and expand the organization’s reach ensuring that every young person in Chicago has access to the therapeutic impact of their trauma-informed training.
There are still team and individual registrations available, and all attendees will be invited to join their new community for tacos and refreshments after the competition. More details on the Ultimate Thunderdome can be found at: CHJS.org/Thunderdome.
